The Fall Of Lucifer

The Fall of Lucifer invites viewers into a world where the boundaries between whimsy and darkness blur. A black, long-horned goat moves gracefully through an autumn forest, its presence both serene and enigmatic. The crisp air carries the scent of fallen leaves, and the golden hues of the foliage create an almost dreamlike tranquility. Yet, beneath this peaceful facade, a subtle unease lingers. Is this merely a goat on a leisurely stroll, or something far more profound?

The shifting light filtering through the trees hints at an unseen presence, a quiet tension that whispers of something ancient and powerful. Perhaps even Lucifer himself, cast from the heavens, seeks solace in nature’s embrace—a moment of respite before the weight of his fate sets in once more. Painted in rich, flowing watercolors on cold press paper, this piece captures the contrast between beauty and foreboding, inviting the viewer to linger in the space between.

Jester's Lament

In the grand hall, the court jester stands at the center of the spotlight, his flamboyant attire a riot of colors and patterns that dance with every movement. His face, painted with a radiant smile, masks the weight of countless unspoken sorrows. He leaps and twirls, his performance a captivating blend of song and dance, weaving a tapestry of joy that enchants the audience and momentarily erases their cares. The jester’s laughter rings through the chamber like a bell, a beacon of levity amidst the drudgery of courtly life. Yet, behind his bright mask and elaborate costume, there lies a heart heavy with solitude. As he entertains and delights, no one sees the quiet ache behind his eyes or hears the sighs that punctuate his solitary moments.

The jester, who brings light to others, walks alone in the shadows of his own anguish, bearing his burdens in silence, untouched by the solace he so generously bestows upon the world. "Jester's Lament" is my favorite piece to date. Perhaps it comes with some resonation of his plight.

The Geisha

In the dim glow of her private quarters, the Geisha stands before a mirror, her reflection framed by an elaborate array of hair ornaments that shimmer like constellations. Each delicate piece, a fusion of silk and precious stones, has been meticulously arranged to complement her ornate hairstyle, a testament to the strict traditions she upholds. As the final traces of daylight fade, she begins to slowly undrape the layers of her elegant robes, each garment falling away with a soft rustle. The vibrant colors and intricate patterns, symbols of her adherence to the demands of her art and society, are shed like the weight of her daily expectations.

With each discarded layer, the veneer of perfection slips away, revealing beneath a quiet vulnerability. The Geisha's movements are gentle but deliberate, her fingers trembling slightly as she peels away the constraints of her public facade. For a fleeting moment, she is no longer bound by the strictures of tradition; she is simply a woman, breathing deeply in the sanctuary of her solitude, embracing the rare, cherished freedom of just being herself.

Crimson Enchantment

2024

Planted in a muddy and quiet corner of the forest, an unassuming fiery toad sits with an air of quiet mystery. His vibrant, almost whimsical hue contrasts sharply with the deep green of the surrounding foliage, but it’s the wizard’s hat perched atop his tiny, speckled head that truly captures the imagination. The hat, while very plain, seems far too grand for such a modest creature. It tilts slightly to one side, casting a playful shadow over the toad’s curious eyes. Despite his ordinary appearance, there’s something enchanting about this little amphibian, as if his seemingly mundane existence is merely a disguise for untold magic and secrets. "Ribbit"

Poison Apple

2023

Lying ominously on a bed of dark, crumpled leaves, the bright red apple gleams with an unsettling allure. Its surface, smooth and inviting, is marred by a chilling detail: a faint, ghostly skull seems to emerge from the fruit's glossy skin, its hollow eyes and grinning teeth barely visible but undeniably sinister. The apple's vivid redness contrasts starkly with the eerie skull, hinting at a deceptive sweetness that masks a deadly intent. The apple's menacing beauty raises a haunting question—who is the intended recipient of this treacherous gift? The answer lingers in the air, as chilling and enigmatic as the skull that peeks through the fruit's alluring facade.

Ethereal Glass

2023

In the ethereal glow of a stained glass window, a pastel ghost drifts with a spectral grace. Its translucent form shimmers with a cascade of soft, swirling colors—blush pinks, muted blues, and gentle lavenders—that seem to drip and blend together like watercolor on canvas. The hues ripple and flow around the ghost’s shifting shape, creating a mesmerizing play of light and shadow. Against the intricate, multicolored panes of the stained glass, the ghost’s fluid, dreamy presence evokes a sense of both whimsy and melancholy. As it materializes with a playful whisper, “Boo,” the air is filled with an enchanting chill, and the vibrant colors dance in harmony with the ghost's ephemeral essence.

tiffany swensen watercolor painting Gaia stained glass
tiffany swensen watercolor painting Gaia stained glass

From the heart of an ancient, sprawling tree, Gaia, the mother of Earth, emerges with a grace that transcends time. Her presence is a symphony of renewal, as the tree’s bark parts gently to reveal her luminous form. She releases a cascade of shimmering water, which flows like liquid crystal across the soil, nourishing the parched earth and awakening dormant seeds. As the water touches the ground, it spirals into life, weaving through the roots and igniting a burst of verdant growth. Her presence is both a promise and a blessing, a reminder of the eternal cycle of renewal and the profound interconnectedness of all living things. Gaia may not be my best work, but she is my first completed piece after being on a 12-year hiatus. Getting back into the groove of watercolor and discovering my very own style that I enjoy has been a journey and Gaia has seen me through the first steps. She holds a special place in my heart and that is why, even though she is not my most refined piece, I am most proud of her.
